Chanticleers Parlay Three Game Win Streak Into Slew of Commitments

Image

Conway, SC. - The Chanticleers have rebounded from that overtime loss in Columbus by stacking three straight wins at The Teal, including statement victories over Liberty and Oklahoma — both with recruits in the stands.

Those performances paid immediate dividends. Five prospects have since announced their commitments to Coastal Carolina, headlined by the biggest recruiting this cycle in ATH Willie Sails, the No. 13 overall prospect in the nation.

“Coach sold me on the program, then you see what they doin’ on the field? Easy decision for me, bruddah,” Sails posted on Instagram, alongside a photo of the Chanticleers celebrating their 41–35 win over Oklahoma — a game he was in attendance for.

Sails, listed at 6’1”, 289, projects as a future centerpiece on the offensive line. Though rated as an “athlete,” most scouts see him locking down the center spot in college thanks to his rare blend of leverage, mobility, and pop at the point of attack. His versatility could allow him to slide to guard, and his tape shows him erasing defenders on pulls and screens. “He’s powerful for a guy his size, but moves like he’s 260,” one evaluator said. “Whether he’s pulling across the formation or out on the perimeter, he levels people.”

Sails is the first five-star ] to pledge to Coastal Carolina this prep cycle — and he might not be the last. The Chanticleers are finalists for three more elite prospects: DE Richard Hatch (No. 7 overall), CB Dexter Bibbs (No. 19), and DE Monte Miner (No. 28). All three have Coastal among their top three, with the Chants gaining momentum after their midseason surge.

The Oklahoma win also brought in two more commitments. Four-star LB Trevor Bausby (No. 77) and CB Jacques Howe (No. 218) both announced their decisions shortly after. Bausby, a physical inside linebacker, has drawn comparisons to current senior Walt Reyna. “He doesn’t have that long speed you drool over, but his instincts are elite,” a scout told us. “He plays square, he plays sound, and once he gets hands on you, it’s over.”

Howe, meanwhile, fits perfectly into what Coastal is trying to build in the secondary. At 6’0”, 183, he’s a press corner with the hips and recovery speed to play man coverage — something the Chanticleers have struggled to execute this season. “He’s a bump-and-run guy with the confidence and tools to live on an island,” one evaluator said.

Two defensive backs also jumped on board after the rivalry win over Liberty: S Keke Allotely (No. 89) and S Channing Armour (No. 320). Both project as rangy safeties who thrive in coverage rather than in-the-box roles. Allotely’s range and ball skills make him an instant-impact candidate, while Armour brings a high football IQ and anticipation that allows him to play faster than his measurables.

The message is clear: after loading up on offensive firepower the past two cycles, Kade Vaughn and his staff are attacking the defensive side with urgency. With Sails anchoring the class on offense and a wave of blue-chip defenders joining him, the Chanticleers are positioning themselves to balance out a roster that had quietly slipped into a defense-first rebuild.

As it stands, Coastal’s class ranks No. 7 nationally while Georgia leads the board with 14 four-star signees. With more five-star targets still in play, the Chanticleers are firmly in the national conversation, not just for the ACC, but on the recruiting trail at large.

since the last two patches I can't play defense and idk what the solution is. Mix up coverages, blitz, don't blitz. Doesn't matter. CPU is putting up at least 35 and 400+ yards. At this point I'm just playing cover 3 zone and making them march down the field instead of giving up huge pass plays.

Clemson, SC. - After rattling off four straight wins over Clemson — including the 2028 National Championship — Kade Vaughn finally conceded what many already knew: the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers and the Tigers officially have a rivalry. Clemson made sure of it with a 49–42 win in Death Valley.

Two years ago, the Chanticleers overcame seven turnovers with Big Game Bryce Underwood and an elite defense to topple Clemson for the national title. This time, with five giveaways and no such lifeline, Coastal couldn’t climb out of the hole.

Clemson quarterback Jeremiah Fischer tore through the Chanticleer defense, throwing for 433 yards and five touchdowns, four of them to sophomore wideout Bret Knowles. Yet even with Fischer dealing, Coastal nearly stole it late.

After two first-half interceptions, quarterback Mike Golladay steadied himself and opened the second half with a scoring drive to pull within 21–24. Clemson responded with 10 straight points, only for Sidney Barkow to grind in a four-yard touchdown run to cut it back to six. But two more interceptions from Golladay — part of his five-pick afternoon — turned into backbreaking touchdowns for Knowles, ballooning the deficit to 49–28 with under five minutes to go.

Even then, the Chants weren’t done. Golladay hit Barkow on a 53-yard screen for a quick strike, and after recovering the ensuing kickoff fumble, Coastal scored again — 14 points in 10 seconds. Suddenly it was a one-score game with just over a minute left. Fischer, however, closed the door with one last dagger, freezing the defense on play action before hitting Knowles on the sideline to ice it.

“It’s hard to win with five interceptions. Hard to win when you can’t stop the offense,” Vaughn said postgame. “We’ve got a bye week coming up and we’re going to have to do some soul searching if we want to be in the mix come playoff time.”

Broadcast analyst Jesse Palmer echoed the sentiment: “The Chanticleers just aren’t getting enough push up front. Barkow has no room to run, and seven holding calls kept the offense behind the sticks all afternoon. When that happens, quarterbacks press — and you saw the result.”

The loss drops Coastal into its midseason bye before a road trip to Georgia Tech, but not all was grim. Recruiting momentum remained untouched, as the Chants secured four new commitments this weekend, headlined by 5-star cornerback Dexter Biggs and defensive end Monte Miner.

Image
Tee Reyna's pick six late in the 1st half ballooned the Tigers lead to 24-7 before a late drive cut the deficit to just 10 at the half. Golladay confirmed he threw to the wrong receiver on the play after the game.

See above comment :dead:

Can't do anything defensively since the last two patches. Their players are faster and react to the ball before mine everytime. The few incompletions they got in this game, two of them were overthrows and three were drops.
