Assuming you run the table and given the ease with which you’re dismantling your opponents have you given any thought to what is next?

Next season I feel is going to be a lot different unless we hit it big in the portal with another QB. The guys currently on the roster are meh and even if we grab a guy out of the portal I doubt he'll be the caliber of Underwood.

[/b]Atlanta, GA. - The Michigan Wolverines spent two years being criticized for failing to maximize Bryce Underwood’s mobility. On Saturday night in Atlanta, the two-time Heisman winner gave them a painful reminder of what they squandered. Underwood shredded his former team with 154 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns, adding three more through the air, as Coastal Carolina rolled past Michigan 59-28 to book their spot in the National Championship.

It looked early like a shootout was brewing. On just the second play from scrimmage, Michigan tight end JJ Graves torched Coastal’s defense for a 56-yard reception. But when the Wolverines reached the red zone, they stayed aggressive, going for it on 4th-and-goal from the three. Quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele’s corner fade was batted away, and Michigan’s chance to seize control vanished. Moments later, standing in his own end zone, Underwood delivered the first strike of his revenge tour — a laser to Talyn Taylor to escape danger and jumpstart a 97-yard drive capped by a field goal.

Michigan answered with another Graves highlight and a touchdown to take the lead, but once Underwood got rolling, the avalanche followed. After an RPO miscue led to a pick-six for Michigan’s Ahmad Sanders, Underwood huddled with Taylor on the sideline and told him only: “Four quarters.” From there, the Chanticleers unleashed a Teal tsunami. Underwood capped a resurgent drive with a five-yard keeper, then Sagapolutele was crushed on a deep shot and safety Gage Drummond picked off the floater. Underwood cashed that in with a 17-yard scamper. On the next drive, Jeremiah McClellan beat press coverage for a 39-yard touchdown grab.

The mistakes for Michigan kept piling up. A swing pass to running back Micah Kaʻapana picked up a first down, but linebacker Juan Acker leveled him and scooped up the fumble. Underwood immediately found George Rabe for a 15-yard touchdown. Then, just before halftime, another forced fumble set up one last Coastal drive. With 39 seconds left, Underwood scrambled for 19 yards, then six more, before hitting Rabe across the middle for a walk-in score. In the span of a quarter, Coastal turned a tight game into a 45-14 halftime blowout.

Michigan tried to rally in the second half, including a quick touchdown off an interception, but the game was long gone. Coastal’s balance was overwhelming — 444 rushing yards, 241 passing yards, and a defense that forced four turnovers while pounding Sagapolutele all night.

“We don’t care who lines up across from us — they’re getting knocked back,” Underwood declared afterward. “But for it to be them on the other side? Yeah, that one meant more. A certain someone still stalking their sideline would’ve been the cherry on top. But we’ll take what we got. Now we move to Tampa.”

The win sets up a national championship clash between Coastal Carolina and Clemson. The Chanticleers handed the Tigers their only loss earlier this season and have been confidently crowning themselves "King's of the Carolina's" after downing the Tigers in back to back seasons. Now, Clemson has the chance to not only take back that crown, but seize the biggest prize of all.

Image
The RPO gaff left Talyn Taylor never turning around for the pass and FS Ahmad Sanders was the beneficiary as he took the pass 79 yards to the house.

Maybe Michigan should have ran the option more? Underwood gashed the Wolverines defense all evening.

HB Micah Ka'apana fumbling the ball just like the Michigan Wolverines fumbled away their season.
