Roquan Barber Among 21 Chanticleers Leaving Conway

What a difference a year makes.

This time last offseason, Coastal Carolina fans were on an emotional rollercoaster as Roquan Barber reversed his transfer portal decision and returned to Conway. This year? No drama. No statement. Just silence — aside from his name quietly appearing among the five Chanticleers entering the portal.

When asked about it, head coach Kade Vaughn didn’t mince words.

“That’s what he told me he was doing before the bowl game,” Vaughn confirmed. “But it wasn’t my story to leak.”

Barber’s departure had been expected ever since his controversial benching in the 30-27 Sun Belt Championship Game loss. What wasn’t expected? Isleta Bowl breakout star Larry Garfield joining him in the portal.

“I need to be somewhere that sees me as the guy,” the redshirt sophomore explained, “not just a solid option.”

With both Barber and Garfield out, Coastal is left with just Tad Hudson — who struggled mightily in his lone appearance — and true freshman Deon Cherry on the roster.

“I’m aware,” Vaughn said flatly when asked about the quarterback depth chart.

Safe to say: quarterback will be the most closely watched position in Conway this offseason.
