Turnovers have always been my weak point, but this start has been frustrating. I don't know if its the revamped passing I'm using or just Browns Chad Pennington esque noodle arm (85 THP) but he's lollipopping everything. A change may be in the air

Tough loss there, especially giving up the last score with less than a minute left

But Sunday is my chise day. Girls have soccer on Monday so no time then, gotta get em in when you can with kids.
If we do nothing else this season - protecting the teal is the goal. If you can't show out for your own fans what good are you. Hopefully we can win a few more road games doe

I blame you good sir. You done put the hoodoo on me.

Is Kade Vaughn Facing A Crossroads At Quarterback?
By: The Teal Wave Report - September 2025

The Kade Vaughn era has officially begun in Conway. And while a 2-2 start might seem modest on the surface, the Chanticleers are already turning heads with a confident, unapologetic brand of football that reflects their new head coach’s swagger.
After a narrow Week 1 loss to Virginia — one that saw Coastal storm back late — the Chanticleers rebounded with a convincing win over Charleston Southern, then pulled off another second-half rally to beat East Carolina. Last week’s Sun Belt opener at South Alabama dealt a reality check, but there’s no denying the foundation being laid.
The biggest question? Quarterback.
Coming into the season, many assumed Vaughn — known for his development of Sam Howell and Drake Maye — would bring stability under center. Instead, handpicked starter Emmett Brown has delivered a mixed bag through four games.
Brown’s numbers are respectable at first glance: 1,025 passing yards, 6 touchdowns, and a completion rate of 67% (24th among FBS starters). He’s also added 125 yards on the ground and four explosive runs over 20 yards.
But the flip side has been costly. Brown leads the nation in interceptions (7), owns the highest interception percentage and worst TD/INT ratio among FBS starters, and has also lost two fumbles — accounting for all 9 of Coastal’s turnovers this season. The Chants are -4 in turnover margin despite forcing five takeaways of their own.
“You look back at these games, and if there’s one less turnover — we’ve got a shot,” Brown said after Tuesday’s practice. “The stats don’t lie. I lead the country in picks. I’ve got to be better if we want to accomplish what we’re trying to do.”
Brown splitting first-team reps this week with MJ Morris and redshirt sophomore Roquan Barber was no coincidence.
“We’re keeping our options open,” Vaughn said flatly while putting on his signature teal-tinted aviators. “This is a poker match. You don’t reveal your hand too early.”
While Morris — who transferred in from NC State and Maryland — is the presumed next man up after a 4-for-4 relief appearance (75 yards, 1 TD) against ECU, don’t count out Barber. A program source told The Chanticleer that Vaughn is “extremely high” on the local product.
“MJ’s got the experience and maybe slightly more accuracy,” the source said, “but Roquan’s right there. What sets him apart is the athleticism — something Coach Vaughn emphasized when naming Brown the starter. Brown’s more accurate, but lacks the deep-ball juice Vaughn really wants. Barber might be that guy. Plus, he’s from here - 138 miles up the road. Easier to rally the community around him than a mercenary like Morris.”
Vaughn has been uncharacteristically tight-lipped on the situation. That may change soon — Coastal has two weeks to name a starter before a pivotal road matchup at Old Dominion on October 4. Regardless of who’s under center, the message is clear:
Protect the football.
Coastal has shown it can win ugly — leaning on a physical run game and an opportunistic defense — but spotting teams 14 points every week won’t cut it in the long run.
Vaughn has owned the team’s mistakes and kept the locker room focused, a breath of fresh air after the finger-pointing from the previous regime. But accountability comes with expectations — especially for a coach who carries himself like a star.
“With the bravado Vaughn brings to the podium and the sideline, expectations are always going to run high,” the program source added. “When you back it up? You’re a rockstar. When you don’t? You’re a blowhard. Right now, the fans still believe. That’s clear with how he’s performed on the local recruiting trail. But if he keeps riding with Brown while the offense sputters, that trust will be tested.”
To Vaughn’s credit, his presence is already paying dividends on the trail.
Last week, the Chants secured a commitment from Concord, NC tight end Derrick Slaughter (6554th NAT / 34th TE), who turned down offers from Charlotte and Duke. Then, the bombshell dropped: five-star athlete Javier Kugbila — the 23rd-ranked player in the country — listed Coastal Carolina in his Top 10 heading into Week 4. Reports are the Chanticleers rank as a B+ for Pro Potential for the tight end position - which has improved over the last few weeks - was a deciding factor in Kugbila ranking Coastal. Even more shocking?
It appears the mutual interest between Kugbila and Coastal Carolina is very real. When the 6’6”, 253-pound athlete from Raleigh released his trimmed Top 8 list heading into Week 5, only four programs — Arizona, Georgia, South Carolina, and Coastal — had extended scholarship offers. And when the dust settled, the Chanticleers weren’t just in the mix — they were sitting at No. 2 on Kugbila’s board, closing the gap on Arizona fast.
“If Coach Vaughn pulls a 5-star and settles this QB situation?” the source said with a laugh. “Watch out, Sun Belt. The swagger-fueled, aviator-wearing, cut-off tank rockin’ Vaughn might just be the one to take Coastal to the promised land.”
