When you average 3.4 YPA it is :drose: basically just an extension of my running game. Hoping it was more Florida's front getting pressure than Golladay being another Carter Smith

don't look at the next game :dead:

in his defense, he wasn't on the sidelines for the Georgia game AND hard to have a good defense with 8 turnovers.

Conway, SC. - After praising new DC Tony White for his debut showing in the Aflac Kickoff win over Florida, Kade Vaughn’s tone turned sharp just a week later. Coastal’s defense was lit up for 539 passing yards in a wild 59–40 shootout win over Duke in their first-ever ACC game.

“Over twenty broken tackles. Not even counting the missed ones, which there were plenty,” Vaughn fumed afterward. “Guys got their arms on the ball carrier and just let him keep on chugging."

When asked what the Chanticleers could change schematically to reduce the passing yards, Vaughn piled it on. "Every long touchdown they had? Broken tackle. So I guess the schematic change is pretty simple: learn how to tackle.”

While the defense took a step back, Coastal’s offense vaulted forward behind Nick Golladay. The transfer QB settled in after a sluggish opener and exploded for 525 yards and five touchdowns. His favorite target, former Duke wideout Kamryn Petty, had this one circled on the calendar and made sure his old team felt it — 9 catches, 180 yards, and 3 scores. Once Coastal retook the lead late in the second quarter on back-to-back Petty touchdowns, they never looked back.

The rushing attack stayed dangerous, too. Sidney Barkow and Floyd Priest combined for 209 total yards, keeping the balance that Coastal’s scheme demands. But Barkow’s day ended early when he left in the third quarter clutching his side. Vaughn later confirmed the Heisman contender broke two ribs.

“Sid’s out about a month, give or take,” Vaughn said. “That’s why we brought Floyd in — to make sure we had answers for moments like this.”

With Barkow sidelined and the defense under heavy scrutiny, Coastal faces a brutal test next week: a trip to Columbus to face the undefeated, 3rd-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes.

Image
Coastal's secondary did a great job rallying to the catches, but not so great at bringing them down as the Blue Devils broke over 20 total tackles in the contest.

Image
After averaging a meek 3.4 YPA in the Aflac opener, Golladay exploded for 449 passing yards and four touchdowns to keep the Chanticleers one step ahead.
