Conway, SC. - The streak lives on in Conway.
Coastal Carolina improved to 12–0 at home under Kade Vaughn with a dominant 58–24 win over Texas State on Senior Night, blending another suffocating defensive performance with an increasingly confident offensive showing.
Quarterback Roquan Barber wasted no time setting the tone, hitting freshman Trishtin Glass in stride on a go-route despite a torrential downpour to open the scoring. That strike kickstarted a 21–0 Chanticleer run to open the game.
Texas State found some rhythm late in the second quarter, putting up a pair of touchdowns — but each was immediately answered by the Chants, who tacked on a late safety to take full control before halftime.
The first-team offense returned with purpose after the break, tacking on two more third-quarter touchdowns before exiting the game. The final punch came on a 28-yard touchdown scramble from Barber, who dove headfirst into the end zone — up big, but far from finished.
Asked after the game why he risked the hit in a blowout, Barber didn’t hesitate.
“I’m still out here battling, proving I’m the right guy to lead this team. If I take my foot off the gas just because we’re up, how does that look to the rest of the locker room?”
The defense matched that energy. In a surprising twist, Aakil Washington surged past teammate LJ McCray to claim the Coastal Carolina single-season sack record. Washington logged 3.5 sacks on the night, pushing him to 15 on the year. McCray added another of his own to reach 14.
“It’s going to be a fun back-and-forth down the stretch,” said Washington with a grin postgame, nodding at McCray beside him. The two have now combined for 28 sacks this season, a mark that has wreaked havoc on opposing quarterbacks week after week.
The Chanticleers (11–0) will close out their regular season next week in Harrisonburg, looking to spoil James Madison’s Senior Night and cap a perfect regular season.
Elsewhere in the Sun Belt, Southern Miss kept their title hopes alive, knocking off Arkansas State to position themselves for a return to the conference championship. One more win next week, and the Golden Eagles will clinch a rematch with Coastal thanks to their head-to-head tiebreaker.
Trishtin Glass going over the top for the opening 58 yard touchdown to pace the Chanticleers as they stay undefeated on The Teal for a 2nd straight season.
Texas State put the pressure on Coastal with a pair of late touchdowns, but as the Chants kept piling on the points Texas State couldn't keep up.
A late interception was the only blemish on another stellar outing by Roquan Barber.
