I was expecting more guys to leave cause of prestige - Anthony Prude the #1 overall QB from last year's deal breaker was prestige - but there are 5 on the fence still but didn't try and hop in the portal

For reference - Vaughn had A+ and Freeman currently has B. Then my coordinators are both Fs right now
can't take over and not live up to the standard
lots of pressure taking over for a 3 time Natty Champion - gotta at least win his first one
Also:
For the record - now that we're off Coach Vaughn I will be using the OC and DC playbooks
For Tommy Reese I hired a CPU generated coach who uses the power spread and Pry uses the 4-2-5 which I have never used before so we'll see how it goes

Prude Ready To Carry the Standard

Conway, SC. - The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers may look far different from the group that stormed into NRG Stadium and claimed a second straight national title, but for redshirt freshman quarterback Anthony Prude, the message hasn’t changed.
“Championship or bust,” declared the former No. 1 overall QB recruit when asked about expectations heading into the first season of the post–Kade Vaughn era. “New faces, new places. Same result type shit.”
And if early spring practices are any indication, the 6’3” Hialeah, Florida native is backing it up in a big way.
“He reminds me a lot of Jalen Milroe from when I was at Alabama,” said new offensive coordinator Tommy Rees. “He’s big, mobile, and has an absolute cannon—with a scope on it.”
The Chanticleers brought in three quarterbacks this offseason, two prep recruits and one transfer from USF; but there’s no question who’s leading the charge to replace Fredrick Meredith and his 46–1 career record.
“Coach Vaughn did an incredible job getting Anthony ready,” praised new head coach Marcus Freeman. “He got live reps last year and learned under one of the best in Fredrick. He’s one of the most prepared freshman quarterbacks I’ve ever been around. We expect big things from day one.”
Former Coastal standout and current linebackers coach Walt Reyna echoed the excitement, even comparing Prude to one of his old teammates.
“Bryce Underwood, no doubt,” Reyna said. “Watching him run the first-team offense, you’d swear it was Bryce out there again.”
The Chanticleers are still installing their new scheme; a shift away from Vaughn’s high-tempo motion attack toward the power spread system Rees and Freeman ran at Notre Dame—but the setup still plays to Prude’s strengths.
“It’s a system that rewards speed and quick decisions,” an anonymous ACC scout noted. “We already know Prude has the tools, you saw flashes last year against second-team defenses. but if his processing catches up to that arm? Watch out.”
It’s a new chapter in Conway, but early signs suggest the same story: Coastal Carolina still has plenty of firepower; and maybe, just maybe, another star ready to rise.

This is an entirely new team. Should be fun to see how the rebuild goes again.

offensively its a lot of motion and RPOs. I ran a few RPOs but not a ton before, so that'll be an adjustment. Defensively, never ran a 4-2-5 mostly stuck with 3-3-5 or plain multiple, so it'll be interesting. Still playing with it in practice mode to make sure I've got guys in the right spots

I'll break it down more in the season preview, but there is barely any returning production from last year. McCallum, Urbik, Miner are the three mains. Which is part of the fun, figuring out what works and what doesn't

Urbik Embracing New Role In Pry's 4-2-5 Scheme

Conway, SC. - Carl Urbik is the last man standing from Coastal Carolina’s back-to-back national championship rosters — at least among the every-down starters. Technically, rotational edge rusher Monte Miner is still around too, but Urbik is the lone holdover expected to anchor a completely rebuilt defense. And he intends to make sure the program’s long line of award-winning linebackers doesn’t end with him.
Over the past two seasons, Urbik thrived as a stand-up edge rusher in Tony White’s aggressive 3-3-5 scheme, a system built on constant blitz pressure and confusion. The senior racked up 12.5 sacks last season, second-most on the team, terrorizing quarterbacks from every alignment.
Now, with Brent Pry taking over as defensive coordinator under new head coach Marcus Freeman, Urbik will be the face of a major schematic transition — from the 3-3-5 to Pry’s trademark 4-2-5 defense.
When asked where Urbik fits in the new look, Pry didn’t hesitate.
“Everywhere,” he said flatly.
That might sound simple, but in Pry’s 4-2-5, “everywhere” means everywhere. The system uses four down linemen, two linebackers, and five defensive backs, emphasizing speed, disguise, and versatility. The fifth defensive back, often called the “nickel” or “star”, can rotate into the box or the slot, while one linebacker often functions as a hybrid: part pass rusher, part coverage defender, part chaos creator.
That hybrid spot? It belongs to Urbik.
“Nothing but Micah Parsons, 100%,” Urbik said when asked who he’s modeling his game after. “That’s what I want to be this year; inside, outside, on the edge, covering tight ends. Wherever I line up, expect problems.”
The senior’s swagger shows up before kickoff, too. Urbik has embraced a new look this spring. Rolled-up jersey, blacked-out visor, and black gloves and when asked about the change, his answer was pure attitude.
“It’s going to be a funeral procession out there for opposing QBs,” he grinned. “Lots of slow singing and flower bringin, ya feel me?”
Behind the confidence is a serious task: helping a defense built for blitz heavy chaos evolve into a balanced, assignment sound unit that thrives on discipline and communication.
“It’s a different style, for sure,” said new linebackers coach Walt Reyna, the former Chanticleer legend and four-time winner of the Bednarik, Nagurski, and Butkus awards. “But the concepts are the same. Pressure the quarterback, force mistakes, and let the playmakers on the back end capitalize.”
Replacing those playmakers will be key. With All American safety Keke Allotey off to the NFL, Coastal brought in two experienced transfers, Anthony Paulo and Dalton Carney, both expected to help stabilize a secondary that now features three safeties on the field at all times.
“With that many moving pieces, communication is everything,” Pry said. “They’ve got to know exactly what the other guy’s doing, or you’ll get burned.”
So far, spring practice has been spirited, sometimes too much so. With new offensive coordinator Tommy Rees dialing up tempo and testing the defense daily, competition has turned fierce, leading to more than a few heated moments.
“All in good fun,” Urbik laughed. “We’re all competitors. Nobody wants to blink first, even in scrimmage. But when the whistle blows, we’re one team.”
That edge, part trash talk, part leadership, has made Urbik one of the most respected voices in the locker room. He’s loud, intense, and confident, but also the first to pull teammates apart when tempers flare.
“It’s a balance,” he said. “Camaraderie and competition. That’s how you build something real.”
For a defense with only three players who’ve logged more than a season together, that kind of chemistry may be Coastal’s biggest weapon.
And with Urbik leading the charge from his new hybrid linebacker role, the Chanticleers might just prove that the Teal Wall isn’t going anywhere, it’s just evolving.
