Fear the Spear.. Big game from Justice
I really wanted Meredith to be the man this year on a Immanuel Hendrix type of level, but he's struggled being the focal point. Last year it was Hajrullahu making magic and Meredith benefiting, may be the same formula with Spear/Agudosi this year

Conway, SC. - The rivalry may change venues and rosters, but one thing has remained constant — Kade Vaughn owns Dabo Swinney.

With Saturday’s 35–32 win inside a raucous Brooks Stadium, Vaughn moved to 5–1 all-time against the Clemson Tigers, once again outdueling his in-state counterpart in a back-and-forth battle that tested every ounce of Coastal Carolina’s composure.

The first half, however, was anything but composed.

For much of the opening 30 minutes, the Chanticleers looked uncharacteristically sloppy — a fumble by Justice Spear derailed a promising red-zone drive, a dropped 4th-down pass by Jamal Stephen ended another, and a missed field goal kept things level late in the second quarter. Then, just before the break, Fredrick Meredith’s hurried throw — delivered a split-second before taking a crushing hit — landed in the arms of Clemson defensive tackle Mike Biggers. That fluky interception set up a short Clemson drive that gave the Tigers a 10–7 halftime edge.

When quarterback Justice Strait opened the second half by carving through Coastal’s defense on a 75-yard march to make it 17–7, panic seemed to creep into the teal sideline.

But not for long.

Meredith, who’s been prone to emotional swings this season, responded with one of his most composed drives of the year — a 10-play, 82-yard answer fueled by Spear and David Agudosi’s relentless rushing before a one-yard dive by Agudosi pulled the Chanticleers back within three.

Then came the spark that flipped the game.

On Clemson’s next series, cornerback Emanuel Abrams made the play of his young career — spinning his body midair to secure a behind-the-back interception, then racing 38 yards to the end zone to give Coastal its first lead of the night.

The roar inside Brooks was still echoing when Coastal’s defense turned the game on its head entirely. Clemson, driving to reclaim momentum after another Coastal touchdown stretched the lead to 28-17, found itself knocking on the door again — until veteran corner Mike Momah undercut a fade route at the goal line, pivoted upfield, and never stopped running.

101 yards later, Momah was bowing to the home crowd as the Chanticleers suddenly held a commanding 35–17 lead.

“It’s one of those moments where you’re screaming, ‘No, no, no… YES!’” laughed Vaughn after the game. “That’s just Momah — smart, fearless, and always one step ahead.”

Play-by-play voice Sam Weiderhaft summed it up perfectly:

“That’s a 14-point swing by one of the best defensive backs in program history — textbook recognition, elite instincts.”

Clemson, to its credit, didn’t fold. Strait immediately found receiver Gideon Adebawore for a 54-yard touchdown, slicing the lead back to 11. After forcing a goal-line stop on 4th and 1 — when Coastal’s gamble to seal the win backfired — the Tigers marched 99 yards in nine plays, capping the drive with a Lyle Little touchdown and two-point conversion to make it a three-point game.

But there would be no miracle finish. Coastal recovered the ensuing onside kick, and Justice Spear (147 rushing yards) ripped off two bruising first downs to drain the clock.

“You’re thrilled to be 7–0,” Vaughn said postgame, “but we’ve got a lot to clean up. Two pick-sixes is great — 484 passing yards allowed is not. Fred missed a few shots that could’ve blown it open, and we only got two sacks. We can’t live on chaos every week.”

Asked about the locker room mood, Vaughn cracked a grin.

“Content, but not resting. That’s how it should feel. We’re not satisfied with surviving.”

The Chanticleers emerge from their brutal three-week gauntlet — Georgia, Miami, and Clemson — unbeaten at 7–0, still firmly in control of the ACC race.

Next up: a road trip north to the JMA Dome in Syracuse, where the 4–3 Orange await, hoping to slow down the most talked-about team — and coach — in college football.

Image
Lyle Little left AJ Dwumfour in the dust on this 80 yard post route touchdown to put Clemson up early.

Image
Meredith was nearly flawless in the 2nd half (16/20, 180 Yds) as the Chanticleers rallied from a 17-7 deficit.

Image
Despite a pair of pick six's, Justice Strait carved up Coastal as he brought Clemson back within a field goal, but wouldn't get the chance for one final drive.

Syracuse, NY. - In a game defined by explosive plays, the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers once again proved why they’re one of the nation’s most dangerous teams, rolling to a 56-34 win over Syracuse inside the JMA Dome.

It didn’t take long for the fireworks to start — on just the second play from scrimmage, running back David Agudosi ripped off a 75-yard touchdown run to give Coastal an early lead and spark a 35-point first quarter. Syracuse managed to land a few punches of their own, including a 58-yard touchdown burst by Maurice Oluokon, but too often their big plays stalled short of the end zone or ended in turnovers.

After jumping out to a 14-0 lead, Coastal’s special teams joined the party, forcing a fumble on the ensuing kickoff and returning it for a touchdown. Moments later, with the score 28-10 after another Tavares Tinker touchdown, Syracuse quarterback Connor Hart fired a pass directly into the waiting arms of safety AJ Dwumfour, and Justice Spear capitalized one play later to make it 35-10.

By halftime, the Chanticleers had built a commanding 49-17 advantage, though the second half was far from clean. Quarterback Fred Meredith fumbled twice and threw an interception as the Orange mounted a brief comeback, cutting the deficit to 49-34 before Meredith connected with Jamal Stephen for a touchdown that sealed the game and ended the day for the Coastal starters.

“Definitely have to clean up the big plays and stop taking our foot off their throats,” head coach Kade Vaughn said afterward. “But at the end of the day, we’re 8-0. Can’t be too mad about that.”

Coastal Carolina will stay on the road next week, heading to Raleigh for a clash with NC State in what could be their toughest remaining test of the regular season.
