Atalanta, GA. - With two weeks to prepare, Coastal’s defense looked sharper than it had all year when the Chanticleers hit the field in Atlanta. Three first-half turnovers set the tone as they sprinted to a 38–10 halftime lead.
For a unit searching all season for answers, it felt like a breakthrough performance — at least early. Even with the turnovers, Georgia Tech still piled up 245 passing yards in the opening half, and once the Jackets went pass-heavy after the break, they tacked on another 250 yards and three touchdowns to make the final score far closer than Coastal would’ve liked.
“Obviously, they were down big so they chucked it, a lot,” defensive coordinator Tony White admitted. “But yardage numbers notwithstanding, I think we did a great job with communication, rallying to the football, and making impact plays.”
Head coach Kade Vaughn echoed the sentiment: “If we can keep this up and fine-tune the coverage, it’s definitely an improvement on what we’ve put on tape at times this season.”
While the defense continues clawing toward respectability, Nick Golladay delivered the kind of rebound Coastal desperately needed. Coming off a nightmare five-interception outing at Clemson, the senior quarterback racked up 420 total yards and four touchdowns.
“Smoke ’em if you got ’em,” Golladay quipped afterward, nodding at the yardage total.
Sidney Barkow also looked more like his old self with three weeks under his belt after returning from broken ribs. After an uneven return against Clemson, the running back tallied 84 rushing yards, 28 receiving, and three total touchdowns to help steady the offense.
The box score won’t do the Chanticleers’ defense any favors, but the win itself provided stability at a moment when the season felt in danger of slipping away. Next up: a trip to Morgantown, where Coastal will try to turn flashes of improvement into a more complete performance against 5–3 West Virginia.

Barkow looked more like a former Heisman contender in Atlanta, tallying over 100 all purpose yards and three touchdowns.

The Chants defense looked better, but still incredibly porous at times including this touchdown in the final minute.

Terrence Rugamba flashing the hands as himself and Kamryn Petty both turned in 100 yard efforts.
