wow that's gotta be one of the nicest screenshots i've seen with that sunset in Death Valley :yep: solid couple of wins there against P4 teams.
Thanks man! As long as we can avoid a let down in conference play it doesn't really matter if we beat Florida or not now - not that we plan on losing

Boone, NC. - There’s still no love lost between Coastal Carolina head coach Kade Vaughn and his alma mater, the Appalachian State Mountaineers. The Chants rolled to another dominant win behind now–Heisman contender Bryce Underwood, who accounted for six more touchdowns, but it was the postgame non-handshake that stole the headlines.

“He took exception to Bryce getting his late in the third quarter,” Vaughn said after the game. “I told him we’re building a Heisman campaign—something him and his middling program know nothing about.”

While no further words were exchanged, App State head coach Dowell Loggains lingered at midfield as Vaughn made his way down the line, greeting opposing players and loudly congratulating his own.

The Mountaineers actually struck first with a methodical 10-play drive, but after a failed 3rd-and-1 run, Loggains kept his offense on the field instead of attempting a 42-yard field goal.

“Clearly, field goals weren’t going to win this game,” Loggains said, defending the call.

The gamble backfired immediately—former Wolverine Lugard Edokpayi blew through the line and buried QB Matthew Wilson for a drive-killing sack.

From there, another ex-Wolverine took over. Underwood opened with a perfect 4-for-4, 37-yard drive, capped by a strike to Dazmin James for the first of his five touchdown passes. The rout was on.

By the time App State finally reached the end zone, the score was already 42–0. Underwood’s day ended late in the third quarter, but not before he escaped a would-be sack, sprinting 30 yards for the final score by the first-team offense.

“We’re just focused on playing football, executing, and proving doubters wrong,” Underwood said when asked about the sideline tension. “Coach Vaughn knows we ride or die with him, and with each win, we’re turning more of those doubters into believers.”

The Chanticleers will stay on the road for one more non-conference test—a trip to The Swamp to face the 2–1 Florida Gators in Gainesville.

/br]Gainesville, FL. - These aren’t your father’s Florida Gators—and after Saturday, plenty of Gator fans may be calling in sick on Monday. The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers stormed into Gainesville and humiliated Florida 66–21, powered by yet another Heisman-caliber performance from Bryce Underwood.

“These fans are used to seeing their QBs put up these kinds of numbers,” marveled Kirk Herbstreit in the booth, “but what this young man is doing this year is simply unreal.” Underwood punctuated the moment by striking the Heisman pose after his second rushing touchdown put Coastal up 28–0.

For all the fireworks, the Chants’ offense still has a tendency to flirt with disaster, and Gainesville was no exception. A red zone interception and a fumble on the very next drive cracked the door open, and Florida QB Abiamiri nearly kicked it off the hinges. First, he juked freshman MLB Walt Reyna out of his cleats on an 89-yard keeper for Florida’s first points. Then, just before halftime, he found Devin Hyatt wide open for a long touchdown to inject life into Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Still, Coastal carried a commanding 35–14 lead into the break.

Any hope of a Gators rally died quickly. Coastal opened the second half with an 8-play touchdown march, then pounced on a fumbled kickoff. Three snaps later, Underwood zipped a 10-yard slant to Dazmin James, and the rout was back on.

By the time Kade Vaughn pulled his starters late in the third, Underwood had piled up 396 total yards and 7 touchdowns, leading an offense that posted a jaw-dropping 711 yards (308 passing, 403 rushing).

After the game, Vaughn revealed an interesting bit of history—Florida had reached out to him last offseason to interview for their head coaching vacancy before hiring Chris Klieman.

“Needless to say, I didn’t take the interview,” Vaughn said. “I’m committed to building something special here in Conway.”

When asked if he could ever see himself leaving Coastal, Vaughn kept it honest: “Never say never, but this place gave me my shot when no one else did—not even my alma mater. I don’t foresee a situation where I’d leave anytime soon.”

That’s music to the ears of Chanticleers fans, who have seen their program skyrocket to national relevance in just three seasons under Vaughn.

Coastal returns home next week to host Sun Belt rival James Madison (1–3) in Conway.

Image
Abiamiri was able to churn up yardage on the ground at times, but it was too little too late for the Gators.

Image
Not the way Florida wanted to come out of the half with this fumble giving Coastal a short field to tack on a quick 2nd touchdown out of the halftime.

Image
turnovers may eventually bite this Chanticleers as Underwood had another pair late in the 1st half.
