You pretty much have a low-end P4 roster with guys like LJ McCray against a G6 schedule so the undefeated season, contextually, makes sense

Auburn seems like they would be a low 80s matchup in the first round so you might have a shot

This is my thinking on it - not entirely out of possibility since I grabbed basically an entire P4 D-line this year. If we were in the Big 12 or ACC I think we'd go 4-8 or 5-7 more than likely. South and North Carolina were low 80s and high 70s respectively and were both missing their starting QB - and they were both still close games. A healthy Auburn would likely wear us down by the 2nd half. But that's getting ahead of ourselves.

Back to back Sun Belt 'chips are necessary first :yep:

Conway, SC. - The dream season came crashing to a halt in Conway on Saturday night, as Coastal Carolina suffered its first home loss under head coach Kade Vaughn in stunning fashion. The 30–27 defeat at the hands of Southern Miss not only ended the Chanticleers’ undefeated run, but also extinguished their hopes of crashing the College Football Playoff.

And for the first time in his young tenure, Coach Vaughn will have to answer some difficult questions.

Clinging to a 27–19 deficit early in the fourth quarter, Vaughn made the controversial decision to bench starting quarterback Roquan Barber following an interception — Barber’s 45th pass attempt of the night. In stepped backup Tad Hudson, and the move quickly unraveled. Hudson went 0-for-7 across two three-and-outs and a failed fourth-down attempt, as the Chanticleers’ offense flatlined when it mattered most.

Southern Miss finally broke through Coastal’s defense for a late field goal — the insurance they needed — and by the time Vaughn reinserted Barber into the game, it was too late. The junior QB led a quick touchdown drive and added a two-point conversion to cut the lead to three, but with just nine seconds remaining, the onside kick failed.

Just like that, the dream was over.

“Execution was lacking across the board tonight,” admitted Vaughn postgame, “But it starts with me. I made a knee-jerk call pulling Roquan, and it backfired. He showed incredible poise coming back in and leading us to a score, and maybe if he plays the whole fourth? We’re sitting here with a different result. That’s on me.

“Even still, he was trying to make plays with a receiver group that, frankly, was disgusting tonight. Eight drops. Eight. You can’t win like that.”

Among those eight drops was a brutal fourth-down miss by Aziah Johnson that would have been a touchdown. While Coastal recovered with a quick safety on the next play, the missed opportunity loomed large. So did a pair of would-be touchdowns — one for 65 yards, another for 53 — both wiped out by holding penalties. Each of those drives ultimately stalled.

Southern Miss head coach Dowell Loggains, who has never been shy about his distaste for Vaughn, didn’t hold back when asked about the QB switch.

“For a guy who’s supposed to be Mr. Preparation, his offense sure looked rattled,” Loggains said postgame. “And then he misreads his team and pulls the quarterback? Rookie move, if you ask me.”

Despite the disappointing end, Coastal Carolina still has plenty to be proud of. Vaughn’s squad ran off 12 straight wins, reached a second consecutive Sun Belt title game, and rocketed into the national conversation with a top-15 ranking. A New Year’s Six bowl may be off the table, but a high-profile bowl matchup still awaits — and the future in Conway remains bright.

One loss doesn’t erase a statement season. But it does add fuel to the fire for next year.

He’s not going to the CFP after that :dead:

Southern Miss had Brett Favre use some Medicaid money to bring in some ringers to get the upset.

Tough loss, especially coming in the conference championship. But Southern Miss gave a good fight the first time around, what's the motivation for the bowl game now that the CFP is out of the picture
