Miami, FL. - In the end, it wasn’t pretty and it definitely wasn’t the blowout some so-called experts forecasted, but the Chanticleers are moving on.

Despite two first half interceptions from Anthony Prude, a costly fourth quarter fumble by Chester Dukes, and just 71 total yards from Heisman winner Fredrick McCallum, Coastal Carolina rode a crucial 10 point third quarter to punch their ticket to next weekend’s semifinals.

The game opened chaotically as both teams traded interceptions on their opening drives. Texas A&M struck first behind Bernard Fort, who racked up 86 rushing yards before halftime and scored both Aggie touchdowns. Prude answered with a 45-yard strike to Braydon Tabor, who once again became Coastal’s emergency pressure valve whenever things tightened.

A&M grabbed its second score early in the second quarter on a wildcat jet pitch to Fort, who broke three tackles on the way to the end zone. Both quarterbacks tossed another interception before Prude steadied things, slicing through the defense on 4th and 3 for a seven yard touchdown run to knot the game at 14 heading into halftime.

Prude kept the momentum after the break, hitting Tabor again for a nine yard score. A&M responded with Carmelo Tongue, this time as a receiver, muscling through Taj Foxworth and gliding the final 25 yards for the tying touchdown.

A Coastal field goal reclaimed the lead, and after an Aggies three and out, Skylar Lichtensteiger punched in what would ultimately be the decisive touchdown.

Still, the Aggies refused to fold. After Dukes fumble in the red zone the Aggies marched on a determined 14 play march, featuring a fourth down strike to Tongue, a 12-yard burst from Fort, and finally a 29 yard touchdown by Cliff Adams pulled A&M within 31–28 with 3:39 left. The Aggies kicked deep, banking on one more stop.

They never got it.

Prude found Tabor for 11 yards on 3rd and 7, then hit Briggs for 17 more to force A&M to burn their final timeouts. From there, Lichtensteiger and McCallum chewed the clock and secured the win.

“This is what playoff football is about, adapting and surviving,” Marcus Freeman said afterward, again brushing aside questions about his future. “Fred didn’t have his best game, Ant made some mistakes. But we prevailed, and that’s all that matters.”

For now, the quest for a three peat stays alive. The Chanticleers are semifinal bound.

Two More Coastal Players Flagged For Test Irregularities

Conway, SC. - Just days after the Chanticleers survived a narrow victory over Texas A&M, Coastal Carolina faces a new off-field blow: junior cornerbacks Dexter Bibbs and Jacques Howe have been ruled ineligible due to testing irregularities, leaving the program’s defensive depth in question heading into the postseason.

“Similar to Trevor’s case, I don’t know much,” said head coach Marcus Freeman when asked about the suspensions. “I know they were also caught under the same umbrella as Trevor, but until we know more I can’t speak too much on the subject. My focus right now is on getting the guys eligible for a tough matchup against Alabama in the Peach Bowl.”

Sources close to the program report that all three players — Bibbs, Howe, and Bausby — were receiving tutoring from the same source, raising questions about potential broader academic misconduct. The university declined to comment on the ongoing investigation.

While Howe has primarily contributed on special teams this season, Bibbs has been a key component in the nickel corner role, recording 47 tackles and two interceptions. With both sidelined, Freeman and the Chanticleers will have to adjust quickly as they prepare for one of the most challenging opponents of the season.

That one was closer then expected.. They did a great job containing the run or at least McCallum. Got some big shoes to fill with the missing pieces on Defense.. Not sure why but Alabama is just one of those teams that always makes me nervous.. Really hoping for a Costal/Ohio State rematch so you can get revenge from Week 1.

Always surprising when you have a game that close. Held on and got the dub though!

this is the 2nd time I've had a Heisman winning running back then he suddenly has no space in the post-season, which is unfortunate. Jennings could have broke Sanders record last year but he just got bottled up.

Bama is indeed one of those teams it seems like plays out of their mind no matter what. But their entire offense is "star" players and half the defense....

the new sliders have been giving it a lot more variety and any given sunday type feel. We've had our fair share of surprising games this season

Atlanta, GA. - Call it a perfect storm, call it Any Given Sunday, or call it simply a bad night; whatever label you choose, the Alabama Crimson Tide demolished the two-time national champion Chanticleers and ended their bid to become just the second program in NCAA history to complete a three peat.

Adding insult to injury, it was junior quarterback Dom Keller, a spot starter who had made just two starts before the Peach Bowl, who delivered the knockout blow, torching a depleted Coastal secondary from the second quarter onward.

“First off, thanks to God. I wouldn’t be here without the faith that tells me my time will come,” Keller said after a career best performance in which he threw for 435 yards and six touchdowns, missing only one pass after the first quarter. “I could’ve transferred and started somewhere else, but I’m a fighter. Now I’m one win away from being a national champion quarterback.”

It didn’t start smoothly for the Jonesboro, Louisiana native. Keller opened 1 of 7, and Alabama trailed by a touchdown after the first quarter thanks to a stout defensive effort. But after Anthony Prude lost a fumble late in the opening frame, Keller found his rhythm and never lost it. He went 3 for 3 for 56 yards on the ensuing drive, capping it with a 14 yard strike to Marco Metchie, the first of many.

A Coastal three and out set up Keller’s second touchdown to Metchie, and a rare Fredrick McCallum fumble gifted Alabama another short field. This time Jahlil Metchie cashed in from six yards out. In a blink, Alabama led 21–7 and threatened to bury the Chanticleers before halftime.

To their credit, Coastal fought back. Prude hit Morgan Briggs on a bubble that turned into an 81 yard sprint, and after Keller threw his final incompletion of the night, an interception, Prude again found Briggs to tie the game at 21.

Keller didn’t blink. He dropped another dart between two Coastal defenders, both a half step out of phase, to Marco Metchie, who turned it into a 72-yard touchdown and a 28–21 halftime lead.

“It’s easy to pretend the missing defenders don’t matter; and that’s all Coach Freeman can really say,” noted Kirk Herbstreit during the broadcast. “But once Keller settled in, he kept finding Coastal’s corners just a little out of position. It’s a lack of game reps more than anything. They’re talented. The calls are fine. But this is a game of inches, and Alabama is taking them in bunches.”

The Tide delivered the true dagger out of halftime, completing the double dip with six of seven passes again going to Metchie before Alex Iosivas bailed out a near interception with a toe-tap grab in the corner.

McCallum then pushed Alabama fully over the edge with his second fumble. Linebacker David Amador scooped it and rumbled 39 yards, and two plays later Metchie hauled in his fourth touchdown. The rout was on. Alabama added 13 more points, while Prude, pressing and playing from behind threw three second half interceptions.

Coastal added a late window dressing touchdown, doing little more than ruining someone’s parlay.

Prude finished with 367 total yards and three touchdowns, but his early fumble and late interceptions defined the night. Heisman winner Fredrick McCallum endured his worst performance of a brilliant season, totaling just 49 yards with two costly fumbles.

“I’m proud of this team. Playing with a target on your back while chasing history isn’t easy,” Marcus Freeman said afterward. “They handled a lot of offseason turmoil and kept showing up. That’s all you can ask.”

Pressed on what the loss means for his legacy and his continued search for a national title, Freeman sidestepped the question and moved on.

Fredrick McCallum had fumbled two times all season, doubling that mark in a disastrous final outing.

Dom Keller played out of his mind once he settled in, torching the Chanticleers secondary without tossing an incompletion in the 2nd half.

Even his bad throws turned to gold, as CB Desmond Schraeder is just a touch out of position on the fade, allowing Iosivas to haul in the touchdown.

Prude may have thrown three interceptions, but only after the Chanticleers were trying to throw their way out of a 42-21 hole.
