Back Like They Never Left

Sidney Barkow ran over, around, and through the Clemson Tigers defense to the tune of 306 yards and five touchdowns to leave Clemson licking their wounds.

Clemson, SC. - “For anyone who thought we were cooked, you never go all-in until the river,” cracked Kade Vaughn, grinning behind his teal-tinted shades after Coastal Carolina obliterated Clemson 56-17 at Memorial Stadium.
Two weeks ago, Vaughn was openly torching his defense for looking like “Swiss cheese.” A bye week and a few hard schematic tweaks later, the unit looked reborn. Against a Tigers team once touted as the preseason favorite, Coastal delivered five sacks, three interceptions, and a suffocating performance that left Clemson’s rare big plays feeling more like flukes than sparks.
On offense, it was Sidney Barkow’s show — a performance so dominant it rewrote the Chanticleers record book. The Iowa State transfer ripped off a 27-yard jaunt on his first touch, juking two defenders and setting the tone. His second drive? A 58-yard sprint punctuated by a vicious stiff-arm, capped off by a mocking message toward the Tigers’ sideline: “All day, baby. Let’s show the country what the No. 1 defense really looks like.”
From there, Barkow kept piling it on. Even when Clemson briefly closed the gap to 21-7, the Chanticleers looked unfazed. Mason Kelsay and Barkow answered with yet another march to the end zone, finishing the half a perfect six-for-six on scoring drives. By the time the teams hit the locker room, Coastal led 42-10 and you could hear a pin drop in Memorial Stadium.
Barkow wasn’t done either. Two more long touchdown runs in the second half cemented both the blowout and his place in Coastal lore. By night’s end, he had set new single-game marks for rushing yards and touchdowns.
And in true Vaughn-era fashion, the swagger didn’t stop when the clock hit zero. “We had to remind them who runs this state — us,” Barkow told the on-field crew. “There’s some guys over there we tried to bring over, but they chose the opps instead. We had to show them why they made the wrong decision.”
The victory couldn’t have come at a better time for the defending champs. Just two weeks removed from being gashed by Notre Dame and written off as playoff longshots, Coastal reasserted itself as a heavyweight in the national picture.
Now 6-2, the Chanticleers return home next week for another critical test against the 17th-ranked Indiana Hoosiers (6-2).

At least for one game, the Chanticleers defense answered their coaches challenge with AJ Drumfour grabbing the first of three Coastal INTs on Clemson's 2nd drive.

Barkow shredding the Tigers defense, Kelsay provided the steady hand that kept the Tigers defense honest with a 22/27 line.

Walt Reyna lead by example once again, tallying 4 TFLs and a sack as the Chanticleers defense looked inspired from the 1st snap.

The train don't stop. Barkow has platinum shifty and 99 speed / 98 acceleration. Once he hits a hole he is GONECaptain Canada wrote: ↑02 Sep 2025, 10:38300 yards and 5 tuddies on the ground from one man? Jesus Christ.

I will admit, the numbers had me worried. But once Barkow ripped off that first long run it was go time

EA was on some bullshit this game. HB going to the right and breaks three tackles, suddenly is running left with a speed boost? TE across the middle suddenly accelerates and goes from mid-field to right hash in a single step to catch the ball and toast the defender? QB breaks three tackles then throws across his body off balance for a 28 yard dime.
bullshit I say
