For Texas head coach Nash Savage, the memory of a 63–24 humiliation in the 2034 SEC Championship Game at the hands of Oklahoma still lingers. But since then, Savage has flipped the script—Saturday’s 56–14 demolition in the Red River Showdown marks his third straight win over the Sooners.
The nation’s leading Heisman contender, Barry Orlovsky, had what some might call a “quiet” day by his absurd standards—just 14 carries for 120 yards and a touchdown—as he missed significant time in the first half with a hip issue. But redshirt freshman Emilio Delgado silenced any remaining doubts about his ability to take over a game, tossing for 265 yards and three first-half touchdowns on just 11 completions in the blowout.
The Longhorns’ opening drive looked promising before stalling at midfield. Orlovsky was stuffed at the line and exited after his fourth carry with what appeared to be a minor injury. A third-down sack ended the series, giving Oklahoma early momentum.
The Sooners capitalized quickly. Aries Roos ripped off runs of 18 and 32 yards to set up a quick 7–0 lead over the defending national champions. But for reasons that will be dissected endlessly in Norman, Roos—after rushing for 50 yards on his first two carries—touched the ball just four more times in the opening half.
With Orlovsky sidelined, Delgado stepped up. On his first drive without his star running back, Delgado uncorked a perfectly placed deep shot to Prince Oluokon, who hauled in the 80-yard bomb to tie the game.
The game’s turning point came midway through the second quarter. Trailing 21–7 and fighting to stay within reach, the Sooners moved the ball to midfield before linebacker Esteban Castillo’s second sack of the day jarred it loose. Defensive end James Mosely pounced on the fumble, and Texas wasted no time capitalizing.
The next play: play-action shot. Oklahoma’s defense bit hard on the fake, and Delgado found Oluokon wide open downfield for a 54-yard touchdown. Instead of cutting the lead to single digits, the Sooners now faced a 28–7 deficit, one that ballooned to 35–7 by halftime.
Oklahoma opened the second half with an 11-play drive, hoping to chip away at the Texas lead. Instead, QB Iosivas threw the first of two interceptions—this one returned 45 yards for a pick-six by CB Prince Hooey. On the Sooners’ next possession, a stalled drive led to a punt that Tyler Olson promptly took to the house, making it 49–7 without Delgado ever needing to retake the field.
“It was a weird break,” Delgado said with a grin. “We went from 35–7 to 49–7 before I even picked up my helmet again. Coach just handed me a clipboard and told me to enjoy the view.”
With 1:12 remaining in the third quarter, Savage pulled all his starters. True freshman Eric Stubbs led a clock-chewing touchdown drive capped by his own 1-yard plunge, adding the final points in the 56–14 rout.
“We’ll keep monitoring his hip and spell him if needed,” Savage said of Orlovsky’s early exit. “Right now he’s good to go and focused on third-ranked Ohio State next week.”
Meanwhile, Ball State continued its own dominant season with a 41–17 win over Cincinnati, staying stride for stride with the Longhorns in the national title race.

Austin, TX. - After one of his best performances of the season in the Red River Rivalry, Emilio Delgado came crashing back down to earth against the Ohio State Buckeyes. Even so, the redshirt freshman showed the composure and preparation that earned him the starting job, leading a flawless final drive to help the Texas Longhorns outlast No. 3 Ohio State 42–28. The win keeps Texas unbeaten as they continue their quest for a second straight national title.
The game opened as a defensive slog. Texas put together a promising first drive, only for sophomore kicker Edward Jaimes to badly miss a 41-yard field goal attempt. Ohio State answered with a first down of their own before the Longhorns defense came alive, notching their first sack of what would become a 10-sack afternoon to force a punt.
Delgado’s early struggles followed quickly. Pressured into a 3rd-and-long, he tossed his first interception of the game, giving Ohio State prime field position at midfield. But the Buckeyes couldn’t capitalize. After moving to the Texas 39, they faced 4th-and-1, and freshman RB Dante Merchant was stuffed in the backfield for a four-yard loss.
Texas seized the momentum. On the ensuing drive, Delgado hit TE Heath Dalton on a 52-yard seam route to set up Barry Orlovsky’s 1-yard touchdown run.
The Longhorns offense kept rolling into the second quarter. Orlovsky added two more touchdowns, including a punishing 17-yard run where he shed three tacklers on his way to the end zone. Meanwhile, FS Bryce Fiedorowicz picked off Buckeyes QB David President to set up Orlovsky’s third score.
With 4:12 left in the half, Texas led 21–0 and seemed in full control. But President, currently third in Heisman voting behind Orlovsky and Ball State’s Karlos Farris, came alive. He went 12-of-13 for 151 yards and two touchdowns on Ohio State’s final two drives of the half, finding WRs Allen Rahman and Caleb Milliner for touchdowns. Suddenly, a three-touchdown Texas lead had shrunk to 21–14 heading into halftime—and the Buckeyes would start the second half with the ball.
The third quarter became a defensive battle. Both teams traded stops until Orlovsky powered in his fourth touchdown of the afternoon, pushing Texas ahead 28–14. A quick three-and-out for Ohio State gave Texas the chance to deliver a knockout blow, but Delgado’s attempt to float a swing pass to HB Terry Olson was picked off by CB Jalen Smoot and returned 71 yards for a Buckeyes touchdown.
Another Texas three-and-out followed. The Longhorns defense forced a punt on the next Ohio State possession, but Delgado threw his third interception of the day on the very next series, as MLB Kadeem Poljan stepped in front of a crossing route.
Ohio State capitalized. President hit Rahman for a 30-yard score—his 2nd of the game—tying the contest at 28 with the DKR Stadium crowd suddenly hushed.
On the Texas sideline, Delgado huddled with HC Nash Savage. Whatever was said seemed to settle the freshman QB, who returned to the field calm and precise. With Orlovsky sidelined after re-aggravating his hip flexor, Delgado led a methodical 11-play, 68-yard drive. He completed all seven of his passes for 57 yards and added an 11-yard scramble, then checked into a jet sweep at the line that saw Rico Mama race in for the go-ahead touchdown.
The Buckeyes’ final drive fizzled under relentless pressure. Two sacks—of eight and nine yards—left them facing 4th-and-21. President’s desperation heave was picked off by CB Jarrad Frank and returned 58 yards for a touchdown, sealing Texas’ 23rd straight win dating back to the 2036 season opener.
Orlovsky finished with 29 carries for 223 yards and four touchdowns, surpassing 1,000 yards and 20 TDs on the season. Though chasing Darryl Pope’s 2032 record of 2,937 rushing yards may be out of reach, Orlovsky is tracking closely to break Ricky Williams’ Texas single-season mark (2,124) and Derrick Henry’s SEC record (2,219).
“I’m not thinking about records,” Orlovsky said after the game. “I’m just trying to win games and lead this team.”
The Longhorns’ victory marks their fifth over a ranked opponent this season. With only road trips to Oregon (3–2) and Ole Miss (3–2) remaining as notable hurdles, Texas appears to be in prime position for another undefeated regular season. Texas will remain at home next week as they host the Mississippi State Bulldogs (3-4).

David President showed why he's in the Heisman race with a nearly perfect end to the 2nd half, but untimely interceptions ultimately doomed the junior QB.

Delgado may have thrown three interceptions in the contest, but this touchdown handoff to WR Rico Mama was the only play the ultimately mattered as the touchdown gave Texas just enough edge to best the Buckeyes.

Trailing by 14 Ohio State's Jalen Smooth made the play of the game, snagging the interception and racing 71 yards to give the Buckeyes new life.

Austin, TX. - After leaving last week’s 42-28 win over Ohio State early with a nagging hip flexor, Barry Orlovsky didn’t just quiet any concerns—he silenced them with authority Saturday night in Austin.
“No days off,” the Heisman front-runner said flatly when asked about his five-touchdown eruption against Mississippi State.
Orlovsky showed the Bulldogs no mercy, rumbling for 177 yards and five scores despite sitting out most of the second half. He wasn’t even supposed to get that far.
“He was slated to sit the rest of the game, especially with us up 49-0,” head coach Nash Savage admitted. “But he begged for one more drive—‘to prove the hip wasn’t bothering him.’ So we gave it to him.”
On his first carry of that final series? A 50-yard touchdown run. Untouched. A mic-drop moment for the senior back, punctuating a statement win for the Longhorns—their 24th straight victory.
Texas scored on its first six possessions, all but one starting in Mississippi State territory thanks to punt returner Terry Olson’s spectacular day. Olson racked up 134 return yards (16.7 avg), consistently setting up the offense in plus territory.
By halftime it was 42-0. Orlovsky already had four touchdowns before Mississippi State waved the white flag, sending in their backups for the second half.
With another dominant outing—his seventh straight game with at least 120 rushing yards and multiple scores—Orlovsky is now just one touchdown shy of tying Ricky Williams’ Texas single-season record of 28.
“Unfortunately, he’s probably going to break it on the road,” Savage noted. “But when—not if—he does, we’ll have something special planned for him on senior night.”
Orlovsky remains firmly atop the Heisman leaderboard with 1,364 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns on 173 carries, leading the nation in rushing yards, rushing scores, and yards per carry. At this pace, he could join Earl Campbell and Ricky Williams as the third Longhorn to hoist the Heisman.
Meanwhile, Ball State and Karlos Farris continue to lurk. The Cardinals stayed unbeaten with a 27-6 win over Penn State, and Farris piled on another 150 receiving yards and two scores, keeping him second in the Heisman race with 1,145 yards and 19 touchdowns.
Next up for Texas? A trip to Autzen Stadium to face the Oregon Ducks (4-3), who snapped a two-game skid with last week’s 21-14 win over Washington State.

Prince Oluokon going up for the tough reception to set up Orlosvky's 2nd touchdown of the night.

James Mosely had 2.5 more sacks on the evening, buoying his total to 10.5 on the season.

Emilio Delgado caught the defense napping more than once in the contest, with his 42 yard dart to Rico Mama the first of three touchdowns through the air.
