Clemson, SC. - Anthony Prude said the Chanticleers would walk into Death Valley and show Clemson who really runs the Carolinas. Then he went out and proved it, continuing his Heisman campaign with seven touchdowns as Coastal racked up their 10th win against their in-state rivals.

Prude opened his electric performance with a pair of rushing touchdowns in the first quarter while Clemson's Heisman candidate Montell Osemele struggled to find his rhythm. A strip sack on the Tigers' opening drive set up Prude's second score, putting Coastal up early.

Clemson struck back in the second quarter as Osemele torched the Chanticleers defense with a long rushing touchdown, but the Tigers came up short on an opportunity to tie before halftime. Prude answered with his fourth touchdown late in the half, stretching the lead to 28-14.

Osemele marched Clemson into the red zone with 10 seconds remaining, but his fade into the end zone was smothered by CB Desmond Schraeder, who snagged the interception to end the threat.

Coastal added another touchdown late in the third to push the lead to 35-14, but Clemson wouldn't go quietly. Osemele found freshman tight end RJ Cano, who chose the Tigers over Coastal, for a 27-yard touchdown to pull within fourteen
.
That was as close as they'd get. Coastal recovered the onside kick, and Prude quickly buried any comeback hopes with a 53-yard strike to Darin Best, who dove into the end zone for the score. Osemele threw his second interception on the following drive, with FS Terrence Bulaga nabbing his second of the season to set up Prude's final touchdown pass to Briggs.

When asked if he worried about the perception of running up the score, Hartline was dismissive. "It's a rivalry game. They got that early fourth quarter touchdown and started chirping, so I told the boys to remind them who we are."
Prude chuckled and added, "That's why I was counting my touchdowns. Had to remind them who they were playing with."

Prude finished with 406 passing yards, 62 rushing yards, and seven touchdowns, his fifth straight game with at least five total touchdowns.

Coastal returns home next week to host the 4-0 Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Marco Sawyer To Miss Notre Dame Showdown

Image

Conway, SC. - Marco Sawyer has quickly emerged as Anthony Prude's go-to target during the Chanticleers' prolific start to the 2035 season, but for at least one game, Prude will have to make do without his explosive receiver.

Head coach Brian Hartline announced Friday that Sawyer will miss this weekend's matchup against Notre Dame for the birth of his first child.

"Marco came to me this morning torn about his fiancée going into labor," Hartline said. "He was torn between committing to being there with her or playing in the game. I told him, your firstborn is only born once. Be there.

"It's easy to say that life is more important, but when football is all you know, sometimes those lines can be blurred. We support him and wish him a healthy baby boy."

Sawyer has 50 receptions on the season for 660 yards, and seven touchdowns.

Clemson Win Ignites Recruiting Class

Image

Conway, SC. - Brian Hartline built a reputation as a stellar recruiter during his time at Ohio State, and the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers are already seeing immediate returns. The program landed four early commitments this cycle, headlined by the first five-star prospect off the board.

Leigh Acres linebacker Zach Murray announced his intent to sign with the Chanticleers following their 49-21 victory over Clemson, posting on Instagram: "A real one on the way! I'm coming for that #34 jersey @WReyna34!"

Walt Reyna, of course, is the former Chants legend turned defensive coordinator whose iconic #34 jersey is reserved exclusively for defensive playmakers at the coach's discretion.

"Murray has all the tools to excel in Reyna's scheme," a rival ACC scout noted. "He's fluid, instinctive, with a motor that doesn't quit. He doesn't make the perfect read every time, but he never gives up on plays. He's always around the ball, and that leads to plenty of opportunities."

In a defense that prioritizes athleticism and flexibility above all else, Murray could be the next in a long line of dynamic Chanticleer linebackers.

Joining the five-star over the weekend were LB Dante Stewart (#126), HB De'Shaun Marshall (#129), and T K'Lavon Sarria (#203).

they brought in a transfer TE thru the portal that is starting over Mr. Laffitte. Clearly, LSU was not impressed with a solid rookie season smh

Conway, SC. - In a torental downpour, without his favorite explosive wide receiver, Anthony Prude almost looked human.

Almost, being the key word.

Prude racked up another five touchdown (3 passing, 2 rushing) 450+ yard performance despite a pedestrian 65% completion rate, with the rain wrecking havoc on the Chanticleers deep passing game.

"The balls just weren't deep enough today," remarked Prude, before quickly adding, "Ayo for the people at home."

Despite a downtick in production from the offense, special teams and the defense more than made up for it. McCallum house two punt returns, including an electrifying 91 yard return in the 4th quarter, and the defense racked up seven sacks, a pair of fumbles, and a late defensive scoop and score to punctuate the effort.

Meanwhile, Notre Dame never got off the ground as Alphonso Song only completed 10 of his 24 passes, while Ramsay surged for 62 rushing yards in the 1st half, but a meager 12 after the break.

"We know Song doesn't have the strongest arm, no offense to him. With the rain, we knew they wouldn't be able to get over the top of us, so we just played shallow and trusted the defensive line to get pressure," commented DC Walt Reyna.

Coastal enters their middle of the season bye with all of the momentum as they prepare for Marcus Freeman's homecoming in Week eight.
