David Bean Dismissed From School Following Third Disciplinary Action

Conway, SC. - Coastal Carolina freshman redshirt linebacker David Bean has been dismissed from the Chanticleers football program, effective immediately, after a series of overnight incidents led to his arrest and multiple misdemeanor charges. Head coach Marcus Freeman announced the decision Friday morning, calling the move “unavoidable” given the severity of the situation and Bean’s disciplinary history.

According to a Conway Police Department incident report, officers received multiple calls late Thursday night regarding a vehicle driving at excessive speeds and swerving through traffic near Highway 544. Witnesses reported a silver 2020 Honda Civic, matching the description of Bean’s car, traveling over 90 miles per hour and “operating in a manner that posed a danger to other motorists.”

Officers located the vehicle minutes later and attempted a traffic stop. The car initially slowed, but then accelerated across lanes and briefly into oncoming traffic. Given the high-risk behavior and the presence of other drivers on the road, officers terminated the pursuit, instead using the obtained license plate number to identify the vehicle’s registered owner.

Prior to the traffic stop attempt, a security camera at a nearby bar captured Bean leaving the establishment and entering his vehicle after spending several hours inside. The timestamp aligned closely with when the Civic was first reported for reckless driving, according to the police report.

Police later made contact with Bean at an off campus apartment reportedly leased by his parents. Officers noted that Bean appeared visibly intoxicated and unsteady. He declined roadside sobriety testing but admitted to having driven the vehicle “earlier,” offering no clarification. After being transported to the Conway Police Department, Bean registered a blood alcohol content of .10.

He was booked on charges of driving under the influence, reckless driving, speeding, and evading arrest. Bean is scheduled to appear before a judge Friday afternoon for a bond hearing.

Freeman, now in his first season with the Chanticleers, said Friday that Bean’s dismissal was based not only on the incident itself but on what he called a “pattern of troubling behavior.”

“This is the second time during my tenure that Mr. Bean has found himself on the wrong side of the discipline committee, and his third in less than two full seasons on campus,” Freeman said in a written statement. “His clear and blatant disregard for the law, the well-being of the community, and the rigorous standards we uphold here at Coastal Carolina leaves me no choice but to dismiss him immediately.”

Bean, a former four-star recruit out of Kennesaw, Georgia, arrived in Conway with high expectations but never appeared in a game for the Chanticleers. Last season, then-head coach Kade Vaughn suspended him one game for repeated unexcused absences from mandatory weight-training sessions. Earlier this fall, Freeman issued a three-game suspension after Bean missed required position meetings ahead of Coastal’s Week 3 matchup with Louisville.

Coastal Overcomes Slow Start To Roll FSU

Two first half interceptions kept the Chanticleers offense stuck in neutral, but Prude finally muscled his way into the endzone at the end of the half to kickstart the offense.

Tallahassee, FL. - For nearly the entire first half, it looked like Florida State might actually drag No. 4 Coastal Carolina into an upset bid. The Chanticleers played as if they’d left the playbook behind in Conway, miscues, stalled drives, and frustration mounting by the snap.

Anthony Prude opened the game with an interception, added a second later in the half, and missed high on a fourth-down attempt inside field goal range. Even when Coastal played for points, things went sideways: kicker Gene Marable clanged a 29 yard attempt off the upright.

The only thing keeping the Chanticleers afloat? The Teal Wall, which returned to full form and mauled FSU quarterback Rashad LeCounte for five first half sacks, plus a forced fumble that kept the Seminoles from capitalizing on the chaos.

Coastal finally broke through on the final drive before halftime. After taking a six yard sack to set up 3rd and 14, Prude dumped a flare pass to backup running back Skylar Lichtensteiger, who embarrassed a trailing defender for a 32 yard catch and run. Three plays later, Prude lowered his shoulder at the goal line, delivered a brutal stiff arm, and popped up yelling, “IT’S UP NOW!”

Coastal carried that touchdown into the break, then executed the classic “double dip,” opening the second half with another scoring drive to seize control.

Florida State finally got on the board with a 33 yard field goal, but only after electing to kick on 4th and inches, a decision booed loudly from the upper deck. Those boos didn’t last long. On the very next play, Fredrick McCallum ripped off a 75 yard touchdown sprint that silenced the stadium.

FSU answered with its lone touchdown drive of the night, but Prude slammed the door shut shortly after, hitting Darin Best for a 43 yard strike before McCallum punched in the final score following a failed Seminole fourth down attempt.

“It wasn’t pretty, but we won, and that’s the most important thing,” Prude said. “I made a few bad reads that put us in tough spots, but hats off to the defense. They held the line until we figured it out.”

Held the line is putting it mildly. Coastal’s defense suffocated the Seminoles, holding them under 300 total yards, burying their run game in negative territory, and piling up nine sacks on the night.

With the 38–10 win, Coastal improves to 7–1, the lone blemish still their opening-week stumble against current No. 1 Ohio State. The Chanticleers stay on the road next week, heading to Lane Stadium for a showdown with Virginia Tech.

Nine sacks and negative rushing yards kept the Seminoles behind the sticks all afternoon.

Dunbar with the soft hands to haul in the touchdown pass to draw within 11, the closest Florida State would get in the final frame.

Safety Lyle Alli hesitated for a split second, and it was all McCallum needed as he galloped 75 yards for the touchdown.

I love the classic double dip. I rarely get it executed right but I always try. If the Teal Wall keeps ballin, you have a great chance at the title.

Need to turn Prude into a game manager so he can't hurt you in the playoffs with those interceptions. Just let McCallum carry you to the promised land

I agree with Caesar.. You have a 1000 yd rusher just 6 games through the year.. McCallum would be a guy who pushes 2000 yds if he stays healthy.. Prude like Barksdale has talent but is mistake prone.. Ride the run game to another title..

I always defer when given the choice just to try and pull it off :blessed:

The problem is the running game dries up in the red zone, we go from breaking off 7-10 a rip to struggling to get 2. So then I have to throw.

Plus, I believe in Prude :blessed: we'll need him right in the playoffs. If that guy throwing the ball can stop hitting the wrong buttons, we'll be gucci :shifty:
