Conway, SC. - ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit summed it up best from the booth: “It’s been an up and down season for the young quarterback Anthony Prude, but if he keeps trending upward in the second half, this is the game you’ll look at as the moment it all clicked.”

Conway was buzzing for a ranked ACC showdown, and by the end of the night, Coastal Carolina had extended its win streak over Clemson to six straight. But with just over two minutes left, it looked like the streak was dead on arrival.

Trailing 28–24, the Chanticleers watched Clemson grind into the red zone, already up four and poised to make it a touchdown game. Then the entire stadium flipped.

Facing 3rd and 1 at the Coastal 5, Dabo Swinney dialed up a pass. LB Carl Urbik blew past his blocker and drilled QB Montell Osemele from behind, popping the ball loose. Trevor Bausby jumped on it, and suddenly Brooks Stadium had life again.

And this time, Anthony Prude seized it.

With 2:13 remaining and no timeouts, Prude delivered the best drive of his young career, a pinpoint 7/8 passing effort for 71 yards, plus a gutsy 9-yard scramble. Braydon Tabor hauled in three catches for 45 yards on the march, including the 6 yard touchdown with 32 seconds left that flipped the game on its head.

“We believe in Ant for moments exactly like that,” Marcus Freeman said. “He’s young, he’s learning, but he never flinches. You saw the kid grow up right in front of you.”

OC Tommy Rees echoed it: “People can harp on the turnovers all they want, we see the work every day. We trust him because he’s built for pressure. That last drive? That’s who he is.”

Clemson’s final play fizzled into nothing, and Coastal escaped with a dramatic 31–28 win, a scoreline that didn’t remotely resemble the shootout early on. The teams traded touchdowns on their first four possessions, and if not for a Clemson turnover on downs after passing up a very makeable 44 yard field goal, both squads would’ve opened the game a perfect 3 for 3 on scoring drives.

Clemson still struck back before halftime, and Prude’s heave into the end zone was intercepted to close the half with the Tigers up 21–17.

From there, the defenses clamped down. Osemele piled up 454 passing yards, including 200 after the break, but Clemson couldn’t find the end zone again until late in the fourth. Coastal briefly regained the lead at 24–21 in the third, only for WR Kyle Coxie to take a short in route 36 yards to the house midway through the fourth.

Prude’s first chance at a signature drive fizzled into a quick three and out. His second chance, after the Urbik strip-sack, became the defining moment of his season.

With the win, Coastal moves to 4–1 and remains in firm control of the ACC with victories over both Louisville and Clemson, putting them well on track for a fourth straight ACC Championship Game appearance.

And if Herbstreit is right, the biggest story might not be the win streak, the rankings, or the title chase.

It might be the night Anthony Prude grew up.

Just when all hope seemed lost, LB Carl Urbik stepped up with the sack of the season to give Prude one last shot.

Kyle Coxie cooked the Chanticleers secondary with 13 receptions, 200 yards, and this 36 yard go-ahead touchdown after slipping the tackle.

Image
Fredrick McCallum continues to show his versatility with 219 total yards.

Big game from Prude and a big win for the Marcus Freeman era.. Those are the must wins to keep your job in Conway. Hopefully it was also a impactful night with the recruits.

A great drive and moment for Prude but Urbik needs the credit. Huge play when needed.

Prude needed it to silence the boo birds and gotta think if Freeman drops that one the questions about his ability to replicate Kade are already in full force

The crazy thing is I almost let them score on a big pass play three plays prior to reaching the red zone with the idea of not draining as much time. Glad I didn't ;obama:

Prude's got the right stats, its still just figuring out what works with the new sliders. There have been a lot of tipped balls and I don't know if I'm throwing them too high with the placement passing, or he's simply floating them
