LOUISVILLE — Sunday marked a season of firsts for Racing Louisville's squad as the defending champions hosted the Utah Royals in their home-opener.

Savannah DeMelo scored the only goal for Louisville (her third this season) on an assist from Erëleta Memeti midway through the first half. The game ended with a score of 1-0 as Racing won their first game this season at Lynn Family Stadium.

“Getting the three points is all that matters, and I think it’s massive for us to get them especially in front of the home crowd.” Racing midfielder Lily Yohannes told DS.net following today's victory.

Racing Louisville will face a class test up next. The club travels to play the fourth-place KC Current in two weeks on April 12th. 4 players will be gone on international duty during that time, including Sophia Kleinherne & Jule Brand (Germany), Regina van Eijk (Netherlands), & Savannah DeMelo (USA).

Savannah DeMelo has scored a goal in three straight games for Louisville.

KANSAS CITY — Racing Louisville began the second half of the the match against Kansas City with a goal from Savannah DeMelo (4) at the 62' mark. Just last the time Louisville was on the pitch, DeMelo scored the single goal that would lead her team to victory.

"She's done it again," Racing's coach Filipa Patão said about DeMelo after the game. "She's the longest tenured player here & is the heart & soul of this team. She's off to an amazing start this season."

An on-field altercation early in the match saw Louisville's Jule Brand receive a yellow card after a collision with Kansas City midfielder' Gabriela García. As play resumed, Kansas City's Kyra Cooney-Cross delivered a shot of her own against Jule Brand, likely in retaliation, & was given a red card for her actions. As a result, the Current were forced to finish the game with 10-players on the field.

Racing Louisville returns to the pitch on Friday, April 18th for a home game against the Orlando Pride at Lynn Family Stadium.
