Jordan Pickford grew up in Sunderland, joining the club's academy at 8 years old before eventually making it to the 1st team and later being sold to Everton. He now makes a triumphant return to the club, looking for a chance to win the Premier League after spending a few years at Real Betis. This may raise an alarm bell for current captain Anthony Patterson, as the club is likely considering replacing him despite relatively strong performances throughout the season. He has been a bit shaky in bigger games and with Sunderland competing on all fronts, a veteran, steady hand is believed to be needed. Expect Patterson to be moved on in the january window. Pickford will join the club at the beginning of January when the transfer window opens and will receive the #1 shirt and the club captaincy.

Sunderland Agree Free Transfers for Harry Kane

After winning three consecutive league titles with Bayern Munich, Harry Kane has filled his trophy cabinet and wants to come back to England to achieve one final mission, breaking Shearer's record. And what more poetic way to do so by doing it with Shearer's old club's rival club, Sunderland. The 33 year old has agreed a deal to join Sunderland for a club record wage of £100K per week. He figures to slot in as the starting #9 so it is possible this may be Ivan Toney's last season at the club. Several Sunderland Players Sold as Transfer Window Opens

Sunderland had been lining up deals throughout the first half of the season to align the squad with Brendan Rodger's new 3-4-2-1 formation. Additionally, the club wanted to get stricter about its British+Irish only policy, so all non-compliant players are on their way out. Two of those notably are Timothee Pembele, a right-back who joins Leeds for £18M. He was not really capable of playing the wide-right role in the 3-4-2-1 so far anyway, so the club is not too upset about losing him. Additionally, Turkish attacking midfielder Can Uzun was deemed surplus to requirements, and will join Chelsea for £32.5M. Lastly, Tim Iroegbunam, who was signed just last season, is also being moved on to Nottingham Forest for £20M. He was bought when the club was still aiming to play a 4-2-3-1 with defensive midfielders, and has struggled when deployed in the box-to-box role required of him in a 3-4-2-1.

With all these outs, the club is expected to bring in a number of players before the window closes to fill out the squad.
