The Los Angeles Lakers faced the San Antonio Spurs for their first game of the NBA Cup. San Antonio has struggled to get anything going this season and facing a red hot Lakers team, they would have to wait just a little longer. The Spurs were coming off a one point loss to the Washington Wizards and were still trying to find their footing. The Spurs have made some changes to the starting lineup with Nikola Topic and Malaki Branham playing at the guard positions.

Victor Wembanyama had a few key blocks tonight which made the Lakers cautious going into the paint on anything other than a fast break, but the outside game served them well.

One particular block was on a Bronny James layup, but that didn’t stop the rookie. James, Jr. went on to hit three shots from beyond the arc to help Los Angeles stretch the floor.

Los Angeles put their stamp on this game early, going on a 12-3 run to take an 11 point lead in the first quarter and didn’t look back.

Los Angles travelled to New Orleans to face off against the Pelicans in their first meeting since the 2024 Western Conference Finals. Both teams were playing the second game of a back to back matchup, with the Pelicans coming off a huge win over Denver. Anthony Davis got off to a hot start, recording 8 points and 3 rebounds before going out with injury. New Orleans took a one-point lead at halftime, but they weren’t able to hold on to it.
