Lakers drop game one to Cavaliers
Davis presence sorely missed throughout the game

The Los Angeles Lakers and Cleveland Cavaliers took the court in Cleveland for game one of the NBA Finals with questions surrounding the availability of Anthony Davis. Davis was announced to have sustain strained left hip that would sideline him for the rest of the season. Now the Lakers headed into Cleveland with LeBron James and Trae Young leading the way. Throughout the first three quarters this was a very close and tight kept game. Neither team led by more than eight at any point and Trae Young was on fire during the first half. The game shifted to the Cavaliers side after Buddy Hield knocked down a three-pointer to give the Lakers a 92-91 lead. Max Strus knocked down a three-point shot to give Cleveland back the lead, 94-92 which started a Cavs 13-2 run to get their lead up to double-digits with 5:30 remaining, 104-94. The Lakers responded by scoring six straight to cut the Cavs lead to four, 104-100, but Darius Garland knocked down a three-pointer at the top of the key with the shot clock expiring, giving the Cavs a 107-100 lead. Garland would knock down another three-point shot and then back-to-back baskets from Donovan Mitchell and Jarrett Allen put the Cavs up 114-102 with 1:20 to go, giving the Cavs enough room as they went on to take game one 114-106. Darius Garland has been playing like an all-star during these playoffs, especially with Donovan Mitchell who was out the first three rounds of the playoffs, led the Cavaliers with 28 points, seven rebounds and 14 assists. Garland shot 11-of-24 from the field and was 5-of-10 from the three-point line. Evan Mobley put up 20 points and 18 rebounds along with five blocks. Isaac Okoro, off the bench put up 15 points, six rebounds, nine assists and three steals. For the Lakers they were led by Trae Young, in his first NBA Finals game, scored 44 points, but hit 18-of-36 shots to get those 44. LeBron James scored 22 points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out five assists. Buddy Hield, who was inserted into the starting lineup for Anthony Davis finished with 14 points, four rebounds and three steals. Both Gabe Vincent and Christian Wood off the bench each had 10 points. The difference in the second half was the Lakers shooting 38% from the field (17-of-45) while the Cavaliers were 50% (25-of-50).
